The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Clinical Program

The School is proud of its clinical program, which is one of only a few required clinical programs in the country.  Founded initially as the Urban Law Clinic in 1965, it was among the earliest clinics in the nation.  Since that time, the program has flourished receiving numerous awards including the ABA Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access with Meritorious Recognition in 2012 and the ABA Law Student Division’s Judy M. Weightman Memorial Public Interest Award in 2006.

The required clinical program is evidence of the School’s Mission to provide an educational experience that emphasizes “experiential learning” and “service to others.”  Students attend weekly classes that focus on the relevant skills and substantive law and all clinics provide for meaningful guided reflection.  Additionally, each clinical professor works with their students throughout the semester to discuss and evaluate performance and accomplishments and provides a final comprehensive exit interview.

We have represented clients in a variety of matters from marital and fianc�� petitions to temporary workers such as H-1B, H-2B, TN, L and E���s, and permanent residents utilizing Labor Certification, Schedule A, National Interest Waivers, Multi National Managers, and Outstanding Professors and Researchers. Our lawyers have developed expertise in working with a variety of complex immigration issues, and often interact with the local immigration authorities in the District office, as well as the service centers, and at various consulates overseas.

Robin Siegel, Esq., the firm founder and principal, has practiced in the area of immigration law for over 10 years. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with Honors from Wayne State University and cum laude from Wayne State School of Law. After Law School, she clerked for the Hon. Ralph Freeman (deceased), United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She has taught Legal Research and Writing at the University of Detroit -Mercy School of Law and is a member of the Michigan Bar and of American Immigration Lawyer���s Association.

Sandra Gross, Esq., graduated from Wayne State University with Honors, and cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. She taught Legal Research and Writing at the Wayne State University Law School, worked as a staff attorney for Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and clerked for the Michigan Court of Appeals. She has practiced in the immigration field for 5 years, and is a member of the Michigan Bar and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Candie Tou Clement, Esq. has practiced as an immigration attorney in Michigan for over eight years. She graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a bachelor���s degree and earned her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. She has published two newsletter articles on immigration issues. Ms. Clement speaks Mandarin Chinese. She is a member of the Michigan Bar and of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Support Staff

The firm also has an experienced support staff, including paralegal and secretarial support.
